Atlantic Flyway Sea Duck Survey

During the 1980's, restrictive harvest regulations linked to declines in mid-continent duck populations and restrictions on black duck harvest led to a shift in hunting pressure to lesser-utilized species, such as sea ducks. Concern among Atlantic coast waterfowl biologists about this increase in pressure on sea ducks led to a variety of surveys in different areas being conducted at different times, using a variety of techniques that were not compatible.

North American Environmental Atlas (CEC, CCA, CCE)

Mapping North America's shared Environment
The North American Environmental Atlas is an interactive mapping tool to research, analyze and manage
environmental issues in Canada, United States and Mexico. All signers of the Migratory Bird Treaty.
Maps are downloadable free of charge and available in an easy to use map viewer format.
The CEC uses maps in the Atlas to:
•Identify priority areas to conserve biodiversity
•Track cross-border transfers of pollutants
•Monitor CO2 emissions across major transportation routes

Bird Point Count Database

The Patuxent Wildlife Research Center (PWRC) and American Bird Conservancy (ABC) have been working together to build a repository for storing Partners in Flight point count data as well as other point count datasets. The web-based Bird Point Count Database is now ready for use by anyone conducting monitoring programs using point counts. This includes bird point count data collected using standard protocols anywhere in North America (U.S., Canada, and U.S. Territories).

Curious Lives of Sea Ducks

Eleven out of 15 species of sea ducks appear to have declining populations within some portion of their range (exceptions are common goldeneyes, buffleheads, red-breasted mergansers and common mergansers). Furthermore, two species (Steller's eider and spectacled eider) are listed as threatened. Thus, waterfowl managers need current, science-based models to establish sustainable harvest strategies for sea ducks, and they need it now.

Aleutian Bering Sea Landscape Conservation Cooperative

The Aleutian and Bering Sea Islands Landscape Conservation Cooperative (ABSI -LCC) is one of 21 Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs) identified nationally to complete a network of LCCs across the nation. The LCC concept was formed as land and resource managers recognized that dealing with the potential effects from climate change will require a stronger level of collaboration. They are designed to provide connections between researchers and managers seeking to address large landscape and seascape concerns.

Arctic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (ALCC)

The Arctic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (ALCC) supports conservation in the arctic by providing applied science and tools to land managers and policy makers. It is a self-directed partnership that functions through a structure of at-large partners, a core staff, and a steering committee of cooperating agencies and organizations. Its geographic scope ranges across North America from Alaska to Labrador. The Alaska portion encompasses three eco-regions: the Brooks Range, the Arctic Foothills, and the Arctic Coastal Plain.
